What is the “Popular” and can we study it in the ancient world?

This blog will be the hub for all information relevant to the upcoming graduate conference hosted by the University of Pennsylvania titled, The “Popular” in Classical Antiquity. The goal of the conference, and this blog, is to develop theoretical and methodological approaches for studying popular culture, genre, material life, and politics in classical antiquity, and to connect with other researchers interested in these problems.

Seeking popular culture in the ancient world still remains a rich source of inquiry for scholars of various disciplinary perspectives. Building off of the recent collected volume, Popular Culture in the Ancient World, we hope to continue the conversation regarding the popular and its many manifestations.

Check the Blog page for the most recent news and updates regarding the project.

Stay tuned for more information going forward!

Cheers!
